'Waiting for Mum' - Giclee Prints in four diferent sizes also available
I love Foxes, in fact they appear to be my spirit animal. Whilst I was thinking about what to create for my next piece, a fox came up to my patio doors to say hello, my angel card was a fox for that day and I found this amazing reference photo, all within about 10 minutes of eachother. I had to listen to the signs and so 'Waiting for Mum was created.
I love the rich colour of the foxes fur and so when I came to adding context, the greens I used had to be complimentary, with more of a yellow green hue and I carried this colour into the reds and oranges of the trees to tie the composition together.
Colours are very important as they can alter your mood quite significantly. Greens invoke a sense of calmness and relaxation, whichis why it is so important to get out in nature. The reds, oranges and yellows create a sense of warmth, comfort, happiness, laughter and optimism.

How it was created
Samantha begins by slowly building up layers of coloured pencil going from light to dark to create the texture in the fur and atlers. Coloured pencils are notoriously slow and unforgiving and so it's important to preserve any highlights and not to go too dark in certain areas. Once all the details are in I then add the watercolour element, which is so freeing and offes a sense of movement and really adds to the composition. I use the wet on wet method to begin and then use washes, splatters and salt to create different textures within the paint. I sometimes add a white gouche at the end to highlight certain areas and finally go in with a final layer of coloured pencil to enhance areas that need it.
