'Scarlet Acrobat' - Original Drawing
Although we don't tend to get these gorgeous Red Squirrels in the South West of the UK, I couldn't resist the beautiful colours and once I saw this reference photo on Pixabay, I had to get it a go. It's really lovely to be able to use the many oranges and reds in my Polychromos set to make the fur of this gorgeous Squirrel pop off the page. It's quite a cheeky composition and so I thought the name captures it perfectly and adds a playful and dynamic touch to this drawing.

How it was created
Using her beloved Polychromos pencils, Samantha slowly builds up the layers of coloured pencil working from light to dark and adding many layers of colour to slowly fill the troughs of the paper and get rid of any graininess. After about 20 layers she starts to add the detail of the fur and intensifies the shadows to add depth, making the drawing more 3D.
